What is the best time of day to visit the Castle of Good Hope?

Morning is the best time to explore the fort.

Arrive when the gates open at 09:00. You will have time to walk the ramparts before the sun gets too hot. The stone courtyards have very little shade. Morning visits also put you in place to see the traditional ceremonies.

When does the Key Ceremony happen?

Ceremonies and cannon firings usually take place on weekday and Saturday mornings.

Check the daily schedule when you arrive. These events happen in the Signal Cannon Area. Note that both the Key Ceremony and cannon firing are weather-dependent. Staff can cancel them without notice if conditions are poor.
